The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 24, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 4, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1446s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1446s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2021, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2021-1529s), offered by Sen. Hennessey, was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2021 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2021-1446s and 2021-1529s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Mark Pearson. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2021-2057e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on August 10, 2021, making it Chapter 189 of the session laws.
