The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2021 and March 3, 2021. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0093h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee's amendment (2021-0093h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 7, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 29, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 17, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 25, 2021, making it Chapter 51 of the session laws.
