relative to verification of voter checklists.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2021-2022
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Election Law and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 137

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee met in executive session on March 8, 2021 and March 10, 2021. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 11–9. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 8, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 199–172. It crossed to the Senate on April 8, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1286s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2021-1286s) was adopted on a roll call 14–10 on May 13, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 13, 2021 the Senate adopted “Special Order to Next Session, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1286s). A floor amendment (2021-1526s), offered by Sen. James Gray, was adopted on a voice vote on May 20, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 20, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2021 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2021-1286s and 2021-1526s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. B. Griffin. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 23, 2021, making it Chapter 137 of the session laws.
