The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee met in executive session on March 2, 2021 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 18–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2021-0575h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee's amendment (2021-0575h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 7, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2021-1595s). The committee's amendment (2021-1595s) was adopted on a roll call 14–10 on May 27, 2021, changing the text of the bill. On May 27, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. On June 10, 2021 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2021-1595s” on a roll call 198–162, on a motion by Rep. Mark Pearson. The bill was enrolled on June 24, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 23, 2021, making it Chapter 131 of the session laws.
