HB 184 (2021)
relative to the operation of personal water craft around the marshlands or flats of the Rye estuary and the New Castle back channel.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 2021-2022
- House committee: Resources, Recreation and Development
- Senate committee: Energy and Natural Resources
- Subject: Environment - Conservation
The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2021 and referred to the House Resources, Recreation and Development committee. The committee held a work session on March 3, 2021. The committee voted unanimously, 21–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. It crossed to the Senate on April 1, 2021 and was referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. On April 7, 2021 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 7, 2021 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Jason Osborne. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 22, 2021 the Senate voted to pass it and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 17, 2021 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 25, 2021. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 24, 2021 the House voted 173–182 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
