  • Chapter law: 142

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2019 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2019. The committee's amendment (2019-0612s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 7, 2019, changing the text of the bill. On March 7, 2019 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 20, 2019 and was referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 2019. The committee met in executive session on April 18, 2019 and April 24, 2019. The committee voted 15–5 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 8, 2019 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2019 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 25, 2019, making it Chapter 142 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2020.
