SB 137 (2019)

relative to the certification of school nurses.

  • Status: Became law unsigned
  • Term: 2019-2020
  • House committee: Education
  • Senate committee: Education and Workforce Development
  • Subject: Education - General
  • Chapter law: 144

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2019 and referred to the Senate Education and Workforce Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 12, 2019. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 21, 2019 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2019. The committee met in executive session on April 30, 2019 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 12–7, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 8, 2019 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 190–147. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2019 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. It became law without the governor's signature on June 26, 2019, as Chapter 144. The governor neither signed it nor returned it, and the docket records it as enacted under Part II, Article 44 of the state constitution.
