SB 106 (2019)
relative to the definition of political advocacy organization.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 2019-2020
- House committee: Election Law
- Senate committee: Election Law and Municipal Affairs
- Subject: Elections
The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2019 and referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 13, 2019. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2019-1200s). The committee's amendment (2019-1200s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 28, 2019, changing the text of the bill. On March 28, 2019 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 16, 2019. The committee met in executive session on April 25, 2019 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 23, 2019 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 2019 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on July 10, 2019. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On September 19, 2019 the Senate voted 15–9 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
