The Story
It was introduced on January 2, 2019 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 10, 2019. The committee met in executive session on January 15, 2019 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 16–4, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 31, 2019 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 7, 2019 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 14, 2019. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 30, 2019 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on June 13, 2019 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 10, 2019, making it Chapter 166 of the session laws.
