The Story

It was introduced on January 2, 2019 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 10, 2019. The committee met in executive session on February 6, 2019 and February 12, 2019. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2019-0385h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2019-0385h) was adopted on a voice vote on February 27, 2019, changing the text of the bill. On February 27, 2019 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 14, 2019 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 24, 2019. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. A floor amendment (2019-1899s), offered by Sen. James Gray, was rejected on a voice vote on May 15, 2019. On May 15, 2019 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 30, 2019 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 25, 2019, making it Chapter 128 of the session laws.
