The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0624s). The committee's amendment (2018-0624s) was adopted on a roll call 22–0 on February 22, 2018, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2018-0811s), offered by Sen. Regina Birdsell, was adopted on a voice vote on February 22, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On February 22, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2018 and was referred to the House Public Works and Highways committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018. The committee met in executive session on March 27, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 5, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 12, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 20, 2018, making it Chapter 15 of the session laws. It took effect on June 19, 2018.
