The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 15, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0979s). The committee's amendment (2018-0979s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 8, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 8, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 4, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 19, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 30, 2018, making it Chapter 156 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2019.
