The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0818s). The committee's amendment (2018-0818s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 8, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 8, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 14–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1300h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1300h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 19, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On April 19, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. James Gray. On May 10, 2018 the House adopted “House Accedes to Senate Request for CofC” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. J. Belanger. On May 23, 2018 the House adopted the conference report (2010c) on a voice vote. On May 23, 2018 the Senate adopted the conference report (2018-2010c) on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 23, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 25, 2018, making it Chapter 325 of the session laws. It took effect on August 24, 2018.
