SB 500 (2018)

amending references to firearms terminology.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2017-2018
  • House committee: Fish and Game and Marine Resources
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Fish & Game
  • Chapter law: 324

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 13, 2018. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0966s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-0966s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 8, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 8, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Fish and Game and Marine Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2018. The committee held work sessions on March 27, 2018 and April 3, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 3, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1255h) by a vote of 12–5, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1255h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 12, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On April 12, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 184–146. On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. The bill was enrolled on May 23, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1958e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 25, 2018, making it Chapter 324 of the session laws.
