  • Chapter law: 140

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 16, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 15, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2018 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 3, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 10–8, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 12, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. On April 12, 2018 the bill was referred to the Finance committee, whose chair waived the referral under House Rule 46(f). The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 30, 2018, making it Chapter 140 of the session laws. It took effect on May 30, 2018.
