The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 20, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 8, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2018. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018 on a proposed non-germane amendment (2018-1124h). The committee met in executive session on March 27, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 12–2 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1124h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1124h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 5, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On April 5, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 5, 2018 the bill was referred to the Science, Technology and Energy committee, whose chair waived the referral under House Rule 46(f). On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Kevin Avard. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws.
