The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 9, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0064s). The committee's amendment (2018-0064s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 18, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On January 18, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2018 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 17, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1475h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1475h) was adopted on a voice vote on May 2, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On May 2, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 10, 2018 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Reagan. The bill was enrolled on May 23, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 25, 2018, making it Chapter 315 of the session laws. It took effect on August 24, 2018.
