  • Term: 2017-2018
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs

  • Chapter law: 214

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 24, 2018. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 1, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2018 and was referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1271h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1271h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 19, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On April 19, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. James Gray. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 214 of the session laws. It took effect on August 7, 2018.
