The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 9, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0063s). The committee's amendment (2018-0063s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 18, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On January 18, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 7, 2018 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2018. The committee met in executive session on March 20, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 11–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1133h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-1133h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 5, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On April 5, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1951e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 213 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 2018.
