The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate study it after the session ends. On March 15, 2018 the Senate failed “Refer to Interim Study” on a voice vote. A floor amendment (2018-1117s), offered by Sen. Sharon Carson, was adopted on a voice vote on March 15, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 15, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 15, 2018 and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House pass it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House kill it by a vote of 12–3, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 26, 2018 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
