SB 314 (2018)

relative to regulation of mortgage bankers, brokers, servicers, and originators.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2017-2018
  • House committee: Commerce and Consumer Affairs
  • Senate committee: Commerce
  • Subject: Banking and Finance
  • Chapter law: 211

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 6, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2018-1089s). The committee's amendment (2018-1089s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 21, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 21, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 22, 2018 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2018. The committee held a work session on April 17, 2018. The committee met in executive session on April 17, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 12–4, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 26, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1844e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 211 of the session laws. It took effect on August 7, 2018.
