On February 8, 2018 the bill was referred to the Finance committee. The committee held work sessions on February 21, 2018 and March 9, 2018. The committee met in executive session on March 14, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee held a work session on March 14, 2018. The committee voted unanimously, 26–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 21, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 22, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 10, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 19, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 25, 2018, making it Chapter 90 of the session laws.
