  • Senate committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General
  • Chapter law: 76

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 23, 2018. The committee met in executive session on January 25, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 8, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 6, 2018. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 5, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1509e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on May 25, 2018, making it Chapter 76 of the session laws.
