The Story

It was introduced on January 4, 2017 and referred to the House Environment and Agriculture committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2017. The committee met in executive session on January 31, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 18–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 16, 2017 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held public hearings on April 25, 2017 and May 2, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate send it back to committee. On May 11, 2017 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-2548s). The committee's amendment (2017-2548s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 3, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On January 3, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 19, 2018 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 2548s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. John T. O'Connor. The bill was enrolled on April 26, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 15, 2018, making it Chapter 17 of the session laws.
