  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2017-2018
  • House committee: Education
  • Senate committee: Education
  • Subject: Education - General
  • Chapter law: 185

The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 16, 2018. The committee held a work session on February 6, 2018. The committee met in executive session on February 13, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 18–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2018-0750h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2018-0750h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 6, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On March 6, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 8, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 19, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1825e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 185 of the session laws.
