The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2018. The committee met in executive session on January 24, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 8–5, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On February 15, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 14, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 21, 2018 the Senate adopted “Special Order to 03/22/2018, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 22, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on March 22, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 20, 2018, making it Chapter 12 of the session laws.
