- Term: 2017-2018
- House committee: Children and Family Law
- Senate committee: Judiciary
- Subject: Domestic Relations
The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2017 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Children and Family Law committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on February 14, 2017. The committee met in executive session on February 28, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 9, 2017, June 6, 2017, September 12, 2017 and October 24, 2017. The committee met in executive session on November 9, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2017-2509h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2017-2509h) was adopted on a voice vote on January 3, 2018, changing the text of the bill. On January 3, 2018 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 1, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 3, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On April 26, 2018 the Senate adopted “Special Order to 05/02/2018, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate kill it. On May 2, 2018 the Senate voted to kill it on a voice vote.
