The Story
It was introduced on January 3, 2018 and referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2018. The committee met in executive session on January 18, 2018 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 16–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 8, 2018 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 15, 2018 and was referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 20, 2018. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 19, 2018 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 3, 2018 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2018-1812e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 8, 2018, making it Chapter 177 of the session laws.
