The Story
It was introduced on January 19, 2017 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 2017. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1049s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2017 the Senate adopted “Special Order SB 86 to the beginning of Thursday 03/30/2017 Calendar, Without Objection”. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1049s). The committee's amendment (2017-1049s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 30, 2017, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2017-1170s), offered by Sen. Daniel Innis, was adopted on a voice vote on March 30, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On March 30, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 3, 2017. The committee held work sessions on May 9, 2017 and May 10, 2017. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2017-2207e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on July 10, 2017, making it Chapter 209 of the session laws. It took effect on September 8, 2017.
