The Story

It was introduced on January 19, 2017 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 21, 2017. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1046s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2017-1046s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 29, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On March 29, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 3, 2017. The committee held work sessions on May 10, 2017, May 11, 2017 and May 16, 2017. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 1, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 28, 2017, making it Chapter 172 of the session laws. It took effect on June 28, 2017.
