The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2017 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-0487s). The committee's amendment (2017-0487s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 23, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On February 23, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2017. The committee held work sessions on March 28, 2017, April 12, 2017, April 18, 2017, April 26, 2017 and May 9, 2017. The committee met in executive session on May 17, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 21–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1560h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2017-1560h) was adopted on a voice vote on June 1, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On June 1, 2017 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 8, 2017 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes, on a motion by Sen. Sanborn. The bill was enrolled on June 22, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 5, 2017, making it Chapter 198 of the session laws. It took effect on September 3, 2017.
