The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2017 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 17, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 9, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on February 16, 2017 and was referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2017. The committee met in executive session on March 22, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 17–3 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2017-0884h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2017-0884h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 20, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On April 20, 2017 the House voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 229–117. On April 27, 2017 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Daniel Innis.
