The Story
It was introduced on January 19, 2017 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-0583s). On March 16, 2017 the Senate adopted “Without Objection, Rule 3-17 is Suspended to Allow Non-Germane Amendment #2017-0583s , 2/3 Necessary”. The committee's amendment (2017-0583s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 16, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On March 16, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2017. The committee met in executive session on April 11, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 12–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 20, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 27, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 9, 2017, making it Chapter 39 of the session laws.
