The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2017 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 22, 2017. The committee held a work session on February 28, 2017. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–5 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On March 8, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 9, 2017 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 26, 2017. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1623s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2017-1623s) was adopted on a voice vote on May 11, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On May 11, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2017 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1623s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. McGuire. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 16, 2017, making it Chapter 131 of the session laws.
