HB 316 (2017)

relative to a statewide property tax exemption for commercial and industrial construction.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2017-2018
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Ways and Means
  • Subject: Taxes - Local
  • Chapter law: 179

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2017 and referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Municipal and County Government committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 2017. The committee met in executive session on February 14, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 9, 2017 and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 18, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it and ordered it to a third reading. An enrolled bill amendment (2017-2028e) was adopted on a voice vote on May 31, 2017. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on June 8, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2017-2028e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 29, 2017, making it Chapter 179 of the session laws.
