The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 2017 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2017. The committee met in executive session on January 19, 2017 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 12–1 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 2, 2017 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 16, 2017 and was referred to the Senate Election Law and Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 21, 2017. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2017-1053s). The committee's amendment (2017-1053s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 29, 2017, changing the text of the bill. On March 29, 2017 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2017 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1053s” on a division vote 259–57, on a motion by Rep. McGuire. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2017 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 15, 2017, making it Chapter 114 of the session laws.
