  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs

  • Chapter law: 128

The Story

It was introduced on January 21, 2016 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 10, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 18, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 10, 2016 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 29, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1107h) by a vote of 9–8, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2016-1107h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 6, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On April 6, 2016 the House voted to pass it with changes on a division vote 174–156. On April 21, 2016 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Regina Birdsell. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 20, 2016, making it Chapter 128 of the session laws. It took effect on July 19, 2016.
