SB 506 (2016)

relative to adoption.

  • Status: Killed
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Children and Family Law
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Children

The Story

It was introduced on January 14, 2016 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2016. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1039s), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (1039s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Judiciary committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Children and Family Law committee instead. The committee held public hearings on April 12, 2016 and April 19, 2016. The committee met in executive session on May 3, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The minority of the committee recommended that the House kill it. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1771h) by a vote of 7–4, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. The committee's amendment (2016-1771h) was adopted on a division vote 150–137 on May 11, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On May 11, 2016 the House rejected a motion to pass it with changes on a roll call 151–193. On May 11, 2016 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
