The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-0353s). The committee's amendment (0353s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 11, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On February 11, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 17, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 23, 2016 and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2016. The committee held work sessions on April 12, 2016 and April 26, 2016. The committee met in executive session on April 26, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 11, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 3, 2016, making it Chapter 189 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2017.
