  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Judiciary

  • Chapter law: 196

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held public hearings on January 26, 2016 and February 2, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-0404s). The committee's amendment (0404s) was adopted on a voice vote on February 11, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On February 11, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the Senate Finance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 3, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 10, 2016 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 29, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 15–1 to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1152h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2016-1152h) was adopted on a voice vote on April 6, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On April 6, 2016 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 12, 2016 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Sharon Carson. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-2008e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 6, 2016, making it Chapter 196 of the session laws.
