The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 9, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 18, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 10, 2016 and was referred to the House Commerce and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 2016. The committee held a work session on April 5, 2016. The committee met in executive session on April 12, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 18–2 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 20, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-1986e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 10, 2016, making it Chapter 254 of the session laws. It took effect on August 9, 2016.
