SB 446 (2016)

relative to requirements of the state building code.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Zoning and Planning

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 3, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 10, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 10, 2016 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 24, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 29, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted 9–6 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On April 6, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 21, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 3, 2016. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On September 29, 2016 the Senate voted 12–10 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
