SB 439 (2016)

establishing a commission to study the shortage of nurses and other skilled health care workers for home health care services and post-acute care services.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs
  • Senate committee: Health and Human Services
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 252

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 8, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1069s). The committee's amendment (1069s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2016, changing the text of the bill. A floor amendment (2016-1162s), offered by Sen. Kelly, was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 2016. The committee met in executive session on April 12, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 11, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-1997e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 10, 2016, making it Chapter 252 of the session laws.
