- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2015-2016
- House committee: Election Law
- Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
- Subject: Elections
- Chapter law: 185
The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 9, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1086s). The committee's amendment (1086s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 24, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 24, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2016. The committee met in executive session on April 12, 2016 and April 19, 2016. The committee voted 10–7 to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the regular calendar. On May 11, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 193–142. The bill was enrolled on May 19, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 3, 2016, making it Chapter 185 of the session laws. It took effect on August 2, 2016.
