  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Public and Municipal Affairs
  • Subject: Elections

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 3, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on March 10, 2016 and was referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2016. The committee met in executive session on April 12, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 17–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 20, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 19, 2016, making it Chapter 96 of the session laws.
