The Story
It was introduced on February 12, 2015 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 18, 2015. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate send it back to committee, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 5, 2015 the Senate voted to send it back to committee on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2015-3064s). The committee's amendment (3064s) was adopted on a voice vote on January 14, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On January 14, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on January 28, 2016 and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 17, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 17, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On April 6, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 21, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 3, 2016, making it Chapter 40 of the session laws. It took effect on May 3, 2016.
