HB 500 (2016)
repealing the prohibition on the use of silencing devices for taking wildlife.
- Status: Signed into law
- Term: 2015-2016
- House committee: Fish and Game and Marine Resources
- Senate committee: Energy and Natural Resources
- Subject: Fish & Game
- Chapter law: 234
The Story
It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Fish and Game and Marine Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 2015. The committee held a work session on March 3, 2015. The committee met in executive session on March 3, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on June 30, 2015 and August 20, 2015. The committee met in executive session on October 15, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 7–5. The report was placed on the regular calendar. On January 7, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 184–124. It crossed to the Senate on February 18, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 9, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-0953s). On March 17, 2016 the Senate adopted “Special Order HB 500 to the end of the Regular Calendar, Without Objection”. The committee's amendment (0953s) was adopted on a voice vote on March 17, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 17, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes and ordered it to a third reading. On May 11, 2016 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 0953s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Kidder. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-1992e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 10, 2016, making it Chapter 234 of the session laws.
