The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 2015 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 5, 2015. The committee held a work session on February 10, 2015. The committee met in executive session on February 10, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee held a work session on February 12, 2015. The committee met in executive session on February 17, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee held work sessions on May 5, 2015 and September 15, 2015. The committee met in executive session on October 6, 2015 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 13–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 7, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on February 18, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 23, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1508s). The committee's amendment (1508s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 28, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On April 28, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 19, 2016 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1508s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. J. Belanger. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 9, 2016, making it Chapter 217 of the session laws.
