The Story
It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 3, 2016. The committee met in executive session on February 3, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 19–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on March 9, 2016. On March 10, 2016 the House adopted “Special Order to calendar of 3/23/2016” on a division vote 275–25. On March 23, 2016 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 5, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 14, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 28, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 5, 2016, making it Chapter 69 of the session laws.
