  • Term: 2015-2016
  • House committee: Education

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 2016 and referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 2016. The committee held work sessions on February 11, 2016 and February 12, 2016. The committee met in executive session on March 1, 2016 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 20–0, to recommend that the House pass it with changes (amendment 2016-0683h), and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The committee's amendment (2016-0683h) was adopted on a voice vote on March 9, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On March 9, 2016 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 17, 2016 and was referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 2016. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 2016-1296s). The committee's amendment (1296s) was adopted on a voice vote on April 14, 2016, changing the text of the bill. On April 14, 2016 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 11, 2016 the House adopted “House Concurs with Senate Amendment 1296s” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Rick Ladd. The bill was enrolled on June 1, 2016 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2016-1995e) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 9, 2016, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws.
